I received this book quickly and all shipping issues were taken care of immediately.This book is fantastic, as are most of Louÿs' works. It's got that perfectly dry sense of erotic humor that's amusing to read yourself or as a gift for a friend.I am looking forward to reading his other books.

If you have a friend who likes dirty humor and thinks sex jokes are hilarious, buy them this book for a gift. It's an absolute riot, I keep mine on my coffee table and it makes a good conversation starter. Although, you should definitely hide it when your parents come over as it is very ridiculous. I believe you can read a good portion of the book on Google Books, check it out!

I'm proud to be the first to review this little gem which I discovered by pure chance in a bookstore.I'd often read of Louys' pornographic writing, yet everything I'd read (mostly poetry) was very tame by today's standards, though beautiful.This short book is a whole 'nother story. Wow. Louÿs addresses this anti-etiquette book to "little girls" - in other words children - and gives page after page of such diabolical advice like urging them to never tell daddy that their brother forced them to perform oral sex; to never masturbate with a statue of the virgin marry; or to never masturbate in a confessional "so that you can be absolved immediately afterwards." But Louÿs pulls it off with wonderful comedic skill, pretending to be dead-serious the whole time, and the book doesn't read like mere vulgarity, but rather as supreme wit. When I read it, I laughed out loud (literally) page after page.The book is also worthy of a deeper reading beyond the superficial comic side. I don't think the book can be dismissed as "just a joke". There is obviously a strong element of both fantasy and truth in this work. It brings up a really controversial question about child sexuality, and whether it exists or not. Louÿs seems to assume undoubtedly that it naturally does, and on an astounding level. It's also interesting to read that pornographic literature in 1926 was just as decadent (if not more so) as it is today. Child sexuality remains a very dreaded taboo in much of the world.The translation reads wonderfully, keeping the charm of the 19th century style and yet enjoying itself of modern slang, and the book is very slim and comfortable. You can read it in one sitting. I think it makes a great gift for granddaughters.

I ordinarily don't buy new releases but I really wanted to read this book! Shanna Hogan writes very well, reminiscent of the late great Ann Rule. The story flows so well and each chapter ends with something ominous, practically keeping you from putting the book down. It's a tragic story told with a journalistic approach: not putting any of herself in the narration as some crime authors are wont to do. I highly recommend this to my fellow true crime readers

This was a well researched book and a heartbreaking story. This was an interesting read and one of the best true crime books I have read in a long time.

Ms. Hogan does an excellent job telling the sad sad but True story of Erin Corwin. This book is a page tuner.

Gotta admit that I listened to the Podcast first-awesome way to promote your book as it made me wanting more details. This book has obviously been very well researched and the author’s compassion for Erin and her family is apparent as she continues to convey Erin’s life. I can’t wait to hear your next book via the Podcast medium.

Hogan does justice to the victim and her family without sensationalizing her death, as far too many true crime authors fail to do, She also does not downplay the troubles in Erin’s life. Hogan does a phenomenal job of revealing the twisted evil mind of the man Erin thought she loved and the bizarre relationship between her killer and his wife.This is an extremely well-written book. Anyone who follows true crime will certainly be interested in this book. It doesn’t feel right to say I enjoyed a true crime book, but I was intrigued by it.I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. I read this book in under 24 hours. It was wonderfully written. It portrayed Erin as the sweet girl she was and I was thankful for that. I was also glad that it was her moms story as well. As someone who knew Erin I was heart broken to read some parts of the book. It's just so terrible what happened to her. She didn't deserve it. Nobody does. I have read this author's other books and she has quickly become one of my favorites. Her books, including this one, flow from the pages. I love that she humanizes the victims and she shows them flaws and all. True crime readers are going to love this book. I recommend it highly.

Shanna did an amazing job at portraying Erin the way her family and friends knew her. Shanna's eminence amount of research really helped show the whole story and her writing talents allowed the book to flow. So much so that I couldn't put it down until it was finished 10 hours later. The podcast is a great outlet too. As someone who knew and loved Erin, this book does her justice! Thank you so much Shanna!!

She was successful in getting admission to medical school with the material and guidance given in the book. Pre-medical students carry an inordinate amount of academic load to meet the medschool course prerequisites. The extra curricular activities place even greater demand on their time. The application process itself can be the proverbial 'last straw that breaks the camel's back.' The book offers focused, relevant information thus making it easier for the students to separate the essentials from nice-to-have and effectively manage the application process.

As a college freshman I recommend this book to any young college student or high school student considering medical school. The author gives advice on what actions a student can take to maximize their med school application’s attraction to an admissions officer. I was torn between giving a bad review and a decent review. Under Amazon's terms and conditions the author/publishing company accepts reviews from validated purchases so here goes mine... This book is a "listener's guide," disclosed in the description. But the product description states: "briefly covers the creation and format of the series" and that is an understatement. Two pages max (of 143 pages) is devoted to the history of the program, half of which concerns the cast and not the program itself. As disclosed: "the idea is to listen to the original episodes as you read through the book" so unless your goal is to listen to the 30+ episodes and read along in the book and read the author's critical review, this is not the book for you. Yes, I was seeking a production history of the series. No, this is not that book. Worse, the author consulted two websites (Karl Schadow's three-part article about DARK FANTASY from the mwotrc website was one of them) and if you google that three-part article, you will find all you need to know about the 1941-42 radio horror program. Karl did a fantastic job researching, and is far more accurate than any other website on the internet. Had Karl published his findings as an eBook and not as a three-part article in a scholarly OTR magazine, I would have gladly paid $14.99.Perhaps the worst part is not the author's "best and worst" episodes, getting into subjective territory, or a page devoted to the author's reminiscences of growing up in Dayton, Ohio, but his incorrect claim that historians and scholars of old-time radio “will argue to death that their trivia and history is the correct one, disparaging each other along the way.” Nothing could be further from the truth. The majority of OTR historians gather frequently for dinner at fan gatherings and nostalgia conventions, even arranging to meet up and chat about the hobby in general whenever we travel out of state for research projects. Many of us even assist each other with research. On two separate occasions when a researcher did not have enough funds for travel and copy fees, their research trip was funded by the others. Author Brian Schell providing the false impression that there is animosity among historians and researchers of old-time radio no doubt originates from the one and only historian of OTR to whom Mr. Schell cites as his other source of information about DARK FANTASY -- that historian, incidentally, is not well-respected for their habit of bad-mouthing other historians in the academic field in an effort to make himself look good. But author Brian Schell forgot the idiom that one should not believe everything they read on the internet. But then again, he admits he consulted the internet as reference.Last week I purchased another eBook that turned out to be a cut and paste from Wikipedia. Brian Schell did not do that here but two pages of history and material copied from other websites by the author's own admission? Why pay for a book that?

Binding was coming apart, easy to fix if you know how. The book is what was wanted for an 8 year old who is very curious about the world.

It doesn't get any better than this: stories from the people who lived it. A must-read for every fan of WWII history.

I loved this book! I have read many books on World War II, but none have been quite like this one. The first-person accounts from mostly ordinary people are filled with small details that really make their stories come alive. Contributors include people who experienced the war from a variety of perspectives such as those who were young children when Hitler came to power and war broke out, as well as men and women who served their countries during the conflict. There are reports from people of many different nations, including women who worked as Land Girls, children who survived the Holocaust, youth who fought with the Resistance in Italy and France, men who were captured by the Japanese army, and a boy who was living in Hiroshima when the bomb was dropped there. Some of the narratives are only a couple of paragraphs, while a few are several pages. Most of them are just a couple of pages long.The book is well organized with chapters on the British Homefront, the Resistance, Women at War, The Holocaust, The Fall of Japan and many other topics. The text is enhanced by many black and white photographs. A subject index, an index of contributors and a glossary are included at the end of the book.One could use this book as a reference to learn about just one aspect of the war, but each story is worth reading. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about this important event in history.Although most of the accounts are told in such a way that they are accessible to all ages, there is some content that may not be appropriate for young children. There are a few religious profanities and since this is book about war, there are some disturbing descriptions of violence.Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

Some of the stories are inspiring tales of miraculous survival and others are simply heart wrenching. The stories help the reader to imagine what life must have been like, especially for children caught in the war. I couldn’t help but to think of how different those children’s lives were from my carefree childhood. I believe this book is best suited for middle school ages and above due to the intense subject matter that one would expect on this topic. I enjoyed learning more about WWII though these intriguing stories.I received an advance reading copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was not obligated to write a positive review.
