The book is only good for beginners or anyone who does not know much about the sass model. The first few chapters are a little insightful but subsequent chapters are keep repeating the same thing

Really like HBR articles, but it felt like they stretched an article into a whole book. All I kid think is 'no kidding' as I read this very basic 'how to business in eCommerce' book. (Amazon wont allow trade ins either.)

Solid book and a must read. Very useful for those that understand digital age business implications are far more profound than a set of new or hyped up technologies. Companies will be unrecognizable in 5-10 years as changes are integral and profound. Good examples though some of them highlight initiatives that could have been initiated a decade or two ago (I.e. ERP, CRM, etc). Chosen companies are yet to show stronger financial results than peers in the stock market which also make you wonder.

Insightful and forward thinking - presents good case studies on how companies are realigning to address the changing digital landscape in light of emerging competitive business models.

The core model of the book doesn't hold up to close scrutiny, especially the "business model" dimension. Even a company making a single product is in an ecosystem and wants to enhance their customer experience. So this dimension is a muddle, or a figment of the authors' imagination. Beware taking advice based on this muddle of a model!!

I’m sure you need to read this book. In the digital era, all organizations are deeply challenged if they want to create, deliver and capture value with competitive advantage and in sustainable way. All will be different.

Quite good. Specially for beginners. Easy reading.

There are too many business books that hype digital and too few that provide practical advice that helps you shape your digital strategy. Weill and Woerner take a business/executive first perspective, not one of a digital cheerleader. The result is a balanced business book that provides actionable frameworks and advice to help you think through your digital strategy.STRENGTHSFramework based approach to determining your digital business model. Its a classic quadrant model describing the different business model options: Supplier, Modular Producer, Omni channel and Ecosystem driver. The book provides clear guidance around each model with case studies and assessments that help the reader figure out the model's potential applicability.Executive orientation to discussion of digital issues and approaches. The author's recognize the need to find digital differentiators and the executive thought process required to think through these issues. This is not a book that overhypes disruption, start-ups or Facebook, Apple, Netflix, Google and the like. This means that leaders can sink their teeth into the materials.Holistic in recognizing the full suite of actions needed to build a digital business model. Chapter 5 goes into detail, naming eight capabilities required change your digital business model. In chapter 6 the authors addresses the full suite of leadership actors involved -- including the Board, which makes this book unique.Case study and research based including the insight and experience of both leading companies and more than a thousand executives. The case studies from Schneider Electric, BBVA, Commonwealth Bank of America, LexisNexis among others. The authors use this experience to illustrate the different points and bring them to life.CHALLENGESThe book exists in multiple parts and could have been more tightly integrated around the DBM framework. That framework is the core of the first part of the book and forms the heart of the material. The second part discusses digital competitive advantage introducing new ideas -- moving from physical place to digital space, which is insightful and helpful but not really integrated into the DBM. Finally the later chapters on capability and leadership are a strength but feel a bit independent from the core DBM materials. It does not limit the value from the book and is a minor point. The chapter on mobile and IoT appears out of place as it really does not relate to the DBM Framework or topic. By setting itself off as a separate chapter, it gives the impression that mobile and IoT are something different than DBM, which it is not. Its a good chapter and the points about companies commitment to growth and IoT, page 114 - 115 will be great.Overall this book is highly recommended for executives who feel that their digital strategy has not delivered for them. People who feel that digital is more than prototypes, design sessions and mobile apps will get much out of this book.A clear and business like discussion of digital is something everyone needs and this book delivers on that.
