From Booklist

A plant is a living thing . . . that grows and changes, just like you. Beginning with its opening line, this National Geographic Readers title will spark kids’ curiosity. From interactive dialogue (How many plants did you eat today?), to basic diagrams, to plant jokes and Buzzword word banks that are included on the photographed pages, the text keeps readers engaged and asking questions. Tightly organized, the text also builds on itself, with introductory information about plants and how they affect other organisms to concluding opportunities for applying the information with the appended directions on how to grow a bean plant, as well as quizzes to test new knowledge. Through a fun and simple lens that is perfect for the new, curious reader, this title celebrates a plant’s special place in the world. Preschool-Grade 1. --Annie Miller

This is a really accessible early learning book about plants. I really like how it focuses on what a plant actually is, the parts of a plant with comparison to the parts of a person and the essential things a plant needs to grow and be healthy. The book is a good length for bedtime and the pictures are really excellent. You really can't go wrong with this reasonably priced book to introduce a young person to plants and plant biology.

The best series ever for young readers. It is very hard to find books for young readers that are based on the natural world. The photos are beautiful, the storyline is full of accurate, interesting, scientific facts about the subject, and has a vocabulary building review at the back of the book. And each book in this series has several upside down jokes that reference the subject, an added point of interest for Montessori and all children. BTW, I have gotten more than 30 of these titles for my classroom. Highly recommended!

I bought this to help a budding gardener master reading as we plant. I found it an odd amalgam of text and illustration that was not the least bit engaging. It did not hold the child's attention for more than 5 minutes. Also, the book is very thin and provides minimal information.

Great little informative paperback for kids. I bought it for a four year old girl who loves to 'garden' with me. She likes the pictures and my interpretation of them more than what is written in this book. Its a little hard for her to grasp this one. When I read it as written she loses interest quite fast. So I make it up as we go. I gave five stars because it is a good purchase and all kids are different.

I love informational text with photographs! This book is great and was a wonderful addition to my preschool planting unit.

Great book for easy learning. We bought this to go with a seed kit for our homeschool plant science lessons. It was a good addition. Nice pictures and easy to understand for my 8 year old.

This book is just what I was looking for. I have been germinating and planting seeds with my 21 month old grand daughter. She is interested in the whole process!

Great for plant unit. I bought several for a guided reading group for 2nd grade. The students love the photos and it's not too difficult to read.
