I felt energized, supported, hopeful, and excited as I read through each page because the author has so many positive tips and tools on becoming a more successful and giving person. He references several successful people and how they became successful and lists them all out so that the readers can follow in the same footsteps if they choose. I love how the author included actual links in his book that took me to motivational videos so that I could be inspired there as well. There are also results given throughout the book from studies on the different habits of successful/rich people versus unsuccessful/poor people. I have baked bread for over forty years. Last year I got "The New Artisan Bread in Five minute a day", and started baking three or four days a week. The dough recipes are good, and you can use them so many ways. This book.takes it to a new level! They have even developed a simplified version of croissant and danish dough that is fast enough to work into a busy life. The recipes are delicious, and they show you how to make beautiful braids, wreaths, and other fancy loaves. There is an entire chapter on fillings, and multiply variations on cinnamon bread. The book also is enjoyable to just read. They tell the history of different breads; where it came from, the significance of the shape and the ingredients, and other interesting facts. I am baking and freezing bread from this book for house guest next week. Sandwich bread, filled breakfast breads and simple boules to go with soup. I love this book!

Yeast breads are tricky without a doubt. However this book has peaked my interest enough to dive in the incredible recipes! They are not difficult especially if you have a stand mixer with a dough hook. You can split your dough and use it many different ways. I’m intrigued to say the least!

Zoe’s methods are easy to follow but introduce even novice yeast bakers to “fancy” breads. I can’t wait to try all the recipes out!

This is my 4th book by these authors, and none of them disappoint, I have made two buckets of bread after pouring over each page and recipe. They are just as easy as ever and have so many new recipes and from other cultures, countries for everyday and holiday uses. The ingredients are easy to find, usually on hand and they give you recipes for thing like lemon curd, farmers cheese and several others that is a plus. I really want to work through every one, made cinnamon rolls and a Pullman loaf last night, yum!

After following Zoë on Instagram for awhile, I was interested in purchasing one of her books. This book is great for beginners and anyone who is busy, but values having quality everyday bread and wants to impress their family and friends at the same time. The first several chapters are informative and cover information like technique, types of flours, essential kitchen equipment, etc. Many of these bread doughs can be fashioned into different recipes, so with this method, you can keep a batch of one type of dough and from that make a loaf, some pita, or another type of bread! Their website and her instagram are a wealth of knowledge as well, and free!

Reading this with my 7-year-old was a very interesting journey. She and I have always read together, having read everything from Dr. Seuss and the Ramona series to The Hobbit and The Little Prince. This book generated more chatting between the two of us than any of the others.Stratford does an incredible job of incorporating and generating interest in science, math, language, and human interactions. Fictionalizing a friendship between Mary Shelly (Godwin), the renowned author, and Ada Byron, mathematician/scientist, as children, Stratford connects all of these things seamlessly within the cultural context of girls with little social power. These strong young girls, who still have quirks and challenges that all humans face, rely on their curiosity to find agency and follow their interests through the foundation of a detective agency.One of the most valuable things about this book, in our experience, was the integration of vocabulary instruction-- I know, it sounds terribly boring, right? The chapter titles often contained words that would be unfamiliar to readers in the target age group, like "incendiary." My daughter's reaction, each time, was to immediately request a definition. Toward the beginning, I would provide one. Quickly, though, we realized that the characters would often not only define the word, but discuss it and then re-use it throughout. While this might sound pedantic, it was natural and fun, and my daughter came away with excitement over knowing some fun new words, that she remembers because of the way the characters explained or used them.Important books are not always fun, and fun books are not always important. This book seems to work on both levels, and I would certainly recommend this book (and the series, if it continues in the same vein) to girls starting around age 6-7. My daughter likely could have made it through this one on her own, but I'm glad she didn't. It was a great "sharing" book!

Lady Ada Byronis a rather eccentric genius as the prodigious age of 11 doesn't really get along well with people. Things are especially awkward when a new tutor shows up along with Mary Godwin who is to be tutored with Ada. Ada doesn't want to be tutored and as a result does everything in her power to avoid and antagonize 'Peebs', the new tutor. Luckily, Mary is strong where Ada is weak, in people skills, and gives Ada a chance. Reluctantly, Ada allows Mary to become her friend and together they establish the Wollstonecraft Detective Agency, named after Mary's deceased mother, a novelist. When Rebecca, a young lady comes to them on behalf of her maid, who confessed to stealing her valuable pendant. But Rebecca doesn't think her maid is guilty and hires Mary and Ada to discover the truth. With Ada's genius and Mary's people skills the two girls set off to find the necklace. A visit to Newgate prison as well as confrontations with suspects and a chase in Ada's balloon give the girls plenty of adventure.One of the things I love about this new series is that it is based on two real people from the time period (Lady Ada Byron, considered to be the first computer programmer and Mary Godwin Shelley, the world's first science fiction writer). While the two girls were in actuality 18 years apart in age, the author has tweaked history a bit to bring these too fascinating people together. The story is entertaining and informative at the same time. The author does a great job of integrating Ada's math and science work with Mary's imaginative and adventurous personality, creating a delightful new series that stands out as a fun historical mystery.

In its own right the story was great, and I'm sure anyone within age would enjoy the smart detective work of two colourful youths. If you have any young women though, this would be especially great for them. I read it to my niece who loved Ada and inquired about building her own "Peebs Cannon" (in story joke) for a particular person.Like a young, female Sherlock Holmes, Ada Lovelace and Mary Godwin are written beautifully with the occasional illustration offering a foundation to base the imagination. I ended up sharing the real story of Ada Lovelace and think it struck something because I found analytical engine and difference engine in my google search history!Bought for Kindle. It costs less than a cafe breakfast, might as well give it a try.

The two protagonists are based off real people and has a unique story line.The story is completely fictional but I loved that she used the real life experiences and real landmarks in the story.Lady Ada Byron is Augusta Ada Byron, the daughter of poet Lord Byron. She herself in real life was a mathematician.Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin was the daughter of the famous feminist writer Mary Wollstonecraft and the political philosopher William Godwin. Mary Godwin is the author of the first science fiction novel,Frankenstein.The two girls are thrown together when Mary comes to Lady Ada's house to be tutored alongside her. Ada it seems, knows more than the tutor is and is quickly bored, but Mary hangs on every word. They do form a bond and then they form their own detective agency.Just wanted to add that Kelly Murphy did a wonderful on the art work.

Bought for my granddaughter, aged 9. She and her older brother, age 12, read it and enjoyed it. It has some "big" words, which are written in bold; I was afraid that would put off the nine-year-old, but she either knew the words or skipped over them.

This book is such a fun re-imagination of history while still being based on fact. I LOVE that it centers smart female characters (and their friendship) with two very different personalities and strengths. I think books like this are sometimes hard to find at this reading level. I wish I would have been able to read it all before I gave it as a gift!

My 9 yo says this is a fabulous story, and says we must buy the next in the series right away!

We use this book all year round in our area, which is near Yellowstone. It is amazing how many animals are active in the dead of winter and leave their little (and big!) trails in and on the snow for us to notice. Well indexed, with interesting facts about a track's size, the space of the animal's pace, and lots of information about each creature's diet and fecal matter. We are always finding scats as we hike,making us ask "who dunnit?"

I used this book before and found it excellent. I did not carry through with practicing, so I am back with the book again. I was/am very pleased with it.Con: My only nitpick is the colored background (dark blue with black fonts) which sometimes makes it difficult to read. But otherwise, it is an excellent book and still worth 5 stars.

About the Author

ALEX ROSS studied illustration at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, then honed his craft as a storyboard artist before entering the comics field. His 1993 miniseries Marvels created a wider acceptance for painted comics. He moved on to DC Comics to produce the equally successful Kingdom Come, the Earth X projects for Marvel, and a series of tabloids for DC, which have been collected in The World’s Greatest Super-Heroes. Receiving critical acclaim and multiple awards for these best-selling works, Ross made a name as both an artist and a storyteller, dedicating himself to bold experiments within the comics medium. Most recently he has worked on Flash Gordon and The Shadow for Dynamite Entertainment. His non-comics work includes creating the poster for the 2002 Academy Awards, the opening credits for Spider-Man 2, and multiple covers for TV Guide. Ross lives in the Chicago area. CHIP KIDD is the four-time Eisner Award–winning designer and author of Batman: Animated, Peanuts: The Art of Charles M. Schulz, and Mythology: The DC Comics Art of Alex Ross.  I would say this book is as good as Mythology: The DC Comics Art of Alex Ross, his other art book featuring his paintings.In this book, we see the groundwork he lays for those paintings. There are sketches storyboards and layouts, character designs, covers and hand scribbled notes. Many of the sketches, like various iterations for covers, are appearing from the first time. And it's not really all black and white, there are a few pieces painted quickly with colour for quick colour tests. I've to add that the scans are really good also, showing off the marvelous shading and grain.You get to see the final pencil stage, before shadows and paint are added, as he focuses on the contours and surfaces. The usual powerhouse cast of DC characters are all in: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Black Canary, and many more. But it's not all character art. There are also design sketches for the Justice Batmobile, logo designs and concepts he did for a literacy campaign (which shows Batman hanging from a stone gargoyle from some skyscraper while reading a book).The drawings look really quite different without the colours and I could barely recognise to compared with the original paintings from his previous book. But make no mistake, the same flair and realism is still there on every page. You can still see the intense attention paid to the detail of musculature, composition, lighting, facial expression, drapery and mood.There's also commentary by Alex Ross himself, in addition to the hand scribbled notes. He talks about his designs, the creative process and on why some ideas just didn't make the cut.Highly recommended to fans and comic artists.(More pictures are available on my blog. More than the finished works themselves, the sketches our favorite artists produce are often sought after more than the published masterpieces given to the public domain. It is quite easy to take the masters for granted; you know, the ones that you are willing to pay the BIIIIIGGGGG! bucks to own what they create. Here, you discover even more why Alex Ross is truly R.O.U.G.H.~~Re-defining Our Understanding of Great Hands~~and you'll appreciate his outstanding ability even more. The book explains that much of what is presented has never been for our consumption, but I guarantee that once you taste it, like me, it will become a necessary part of your dietary nutrition, both mentally, expressed through the hands physically. He shows us, he teaches us, literally, Practice makes Perfect.~No diggity, No doubt~

I feel like I need to write a lot to tell you how great this book is. I haven't even actually read the book Justice (of which this is something of a "making of" book). However no matter how much I say it can't convey how awesome this man's talent is. Even his rough sketches (which there are plenty of) have more life and character than pictures I work on for a long time.He might just be the comic book equivalent of Norman Rockwell. He’s that good.

I bought this as a present for a family member who is obsessed with comic books and superheros, as well as an art graduate and current art teacher. I spent roughly three years searching for something like this and finally found it! The description of the item and preview doesn't do it justice. It is just absolutely perfect and the sketches are amazing. It's like a look into not only the superhero and comic book world, but a look into the behind the scenes process of developing the characters along the way.

The item itself is wonderful! My boyfriend loved it. The only issue I had was that the item arrived quite beaten up. All 4 corners were dented, the dust jacket had a tear in it, and it had some kinda sticky gunk on the back.

Alex Ross does it again with another fantastic book. I’ve always liked his drawings and it’s even inspired me to start drawing pictures.

Not a lot of copy on the pages - just mostly beautiful and richly detailed sketches that gives you an idea on how Alex Ross thinks as an artist. When I say mostly, I mean 99% sketches vs 1% copy - it’s a ton of eye candy for art geeks to have eyegasms over, again and again. Perfect for that friend who has everything.

I am a huge Alex Ross fan. And its nice to see his process and the different stages of his art as it unfolds. Even his sketches are works of art.

Great read, lots of images in various stages. Alex is awesome.
