Most books like this contain mind numbing crap you could have written yourself if you had the least bit of experience. Not this one! It's excellent with great ideas and well written policies. I'm very impressed.

Good ideas are given in the book. But I wish these is a bit more examples.

I used this quite a bit to get started on a procedures manual for my relatively small company. The templates were useful and I liked how it was organized. Naturally I had to create very customized procedures but as an overall organizAtional framework it was worth the price to get the project moving forward.

This book is a valuable resource and I have utilized it in establishing new policies for my company. Thank you.

This is a really accessible early learning book about plants. I really like how it focuses on what a plant actually is, the parts of a plant with comparison to the parts of a person and the essential things a plant needs to grow and be healthy. The book is a good length for bedtime and the pictures are really excellent. You really can't go wrong with this reasonably priced book to introduce a young person to plants and plant biology.

The best series ever for young readers. It is very hard to find books for young readers that are based on the natural world. The photos are beautiful, the storyline is full of accurate, interesting, scientific facts about the subject, and has a vocabulary building review at the back of the book. And each book in this series has several upside down jokes that reference the subject, an added point of interest for Montessori and all children. BTW, I have gotten more than 30 of these titles for my classroom. Highly recommended!

I bought this to help a budding gardener master reading as we plant. I found it an odd amalgam of text and illustration that was not the least bit engaging. It did not hold the child's attention for more than 5 minutes. Also, the book is very thin and provides minimal information.

Great little informative paperback for kids. I bought it for a four year old girl who loves to 'garden' with me. She likes the pictures and my interpretation of them more than what is written in this book. Its a little hard for her to grasp this one. When I read it as written she loses interest quite fast. So I make it up as we go. I gave five stars because it is a good purchase and all kids are different.

His analytical and carefully reasoned account is essential to understanding the modern perpetuation of stereotypes, especially in the Native American context.

A clearly written summary (~250 pgs) of how ideas regarding the simple, uncivilized, lawless, propertyless, pure, uncorrupted, erotic and exotic savage, perceived as outside of, and threatening to, western civilization, has influenced how europeans and their settlers justified and understood expansion against, and suppression of, the 'savages' from ancient Athens to modern America, Australia and Canada.

"Savage Anxieties" is an excellent help to understand the development of the Ancient Greek View about the Savages and the embracement of such a view by later cultures and societies. Highly Recommended to understand the origin and some of the developments about the idea of one's own superior society and/or culture and potential the discrimination and/or rejection of someone's else culture and/or society.

Williams made many interesting facts/data and hypos concerning the Native Americans (the 1st Americans, by the way) in this country. His book does open one's eyes assuming they're closed to all humanity but one sect.

Book was for someone else. But I read it when available. I heard the author speak with Bill Moyers and knew the book was worthwhile. I know for sure that some U.S. laws based on Colonial legal decisions are depriving Native Americans of lands to which only they have a right. Some are Papal Statements which are underpinnings for U. S. laws which are still on the books.

Gave it as a gift to my husband who is a Prof. of Anthropology and he loves it. Thank you

Powerful writing; definitely moving, gripping, challenging. Anyone who thinks of themself as an environmentalist or animal lover ought to read this one. Too bad it's perceived as a "young adult" book so most adults will never know about it. But I think you will thank whoever turns you on to this one. You know what it's about, by now. But what you might not pick up on is that it's a love story - I felt this every page. A love story of chimps, of "wilderness" and "wildness," and of human beings, too. The whole sorry mess of it, from the future's standpoint. (God, I hope it's not ours.) It might just leave you the better for having read it, too. Forget Daniel Quinn's polemic "Ishmael" - this has the ring of some kind of mythic truth to it, if not literal. Dickinson dedicated it to Jane Goodall; I can only think she'd love it. The writing may be too sophisticated/intelligent for some - there's no attempt to write "down" to the readership; this is not light, "entertainment" reading, for all it's gripping entertainment. Much of the sentiments are subtle, as if by a tacit understanding between reader & writer that is somewhat akin to Eva's and Kelly's (although ours, at least, is by choice): we host the book in our minds as a kind of bridge. Its main character and her ideas cohabit with our own. I also liked, a lot, how the author lifted the stones of our civilization, turned them over, and uncovered moral and ethical dilemmas... and then left them for us to examine, wiggling like grubs, helplessly in the light of day. When you finish this book, you will know something about yourself. And I think you will add something to yourself. Literally, I advise you: see what you think.

Eva is the story of a teenage girl who is in a car accident and undergoes a procedure to enable her to keep living. The first part of the book concentrates on Eva awakening and adapting to her new self and is excellent. Teens will definitely identify with her feelings of separation and her frustration at her lack of control. They may also learn from her strong will and unfailing attitude.The second part of the book concentrates on Eva's newfound "purpose" in life. Her new life is worlds away from her old life as a pretty, admired teen. What she decides to do with her life, her fame, and her self are very intriguing and the author uses her situation to voice views about conservation, animal welfare and rights, and the state of the human race and condition. Some readers may find this portion of the book preachy, but I found it very valuable and an interesting frame for familiar views.Eva is well-written and exciting. Descriptions are extremely vivid and realistic, and I found it easy to get involved in the story. The characters are very defined and skillfully drawn. This is a valuable book for humans of all ages.

I read this book soon after it came out, as time goes by the science fiction aspect of this title gets closer and closer to reality. The ethics are interesting and a jumping off point for discussion.

I read this when I was much younger and I was very happy to read it again.

Eva starts out like a regular teenage fantasy book: Eva, who lives in a futuristic world, wakes up in a hospital and is unable to move her body.... only her eyes. Her mother explains that there has been an accident and Eva was hurt but things will be OK... she promises that gradually Eva will be able to move her entire body. Eva senses that her mom is making a special effort to seem fine....and as the story unfolds she understands the reason for her mother's efforts. The seemingly fantastical beginning changes however and a beautiful tale unfolds which is a sort of tribute (so I feel) to the Chimpanzees researcher Jane Goodall (to whom this book is dedicated). Following the reading of this book you will remain with a better understanding of the Chimpanzees world and of the need to preserve these animals way of life. I do not mean to say that this book "preaches" the reader. This does not happen. However you are drawn to the Chimpanzees life through the beautiful tale.

A favorite from my middle school years and it holds up rereading in adulthood.

Beautiful story. Somehow every time I read it, this story can bring me out of a depressed state.

This book is meant as a primer for beginners. It lightly touches on several areas within defensive security. If your just getting started it is a worthwhile read. For those more seasoned some of these topics may act as a reminder of things to consider if there not in your wheel house.

I cannot tell you how appreciative I am of this book and its authors. I am deeply grateful for their effort in starting at the beginning and not being the typical "if you don't know this, it's because you are an idiot" approach. In fact, I was so impressed with this book I ordered 2 more and made it assigned reading for my newest team members. Do not let the naysayers deter you from learning something new. If you have been at this a while, sure this may be elementary. If you are needing an insight in what to do next, read this book. Or if you find yourself needing a good primer this is it. Don't let your pride and the ego a few allow you to miss out on something well thought out and executed.

As a relative newcomer to InfoSec with a number of years of Network Admin experience, I found this book very useful. I think someone like me is the sweet spot audience. The information in the book is concise and draws upon the authors' many years of experience in InfoSec. It's written in a style that is easy to understand (provided you do in fact understand the underlying technologies).If you're a career InfoSec guy/gal at a Fortune 500 (for example), then I'd recommend taking a pass. This is not a negative statement, just an acknowledgement of the intended audience of the book. It's a best practices handbook, not an in-depth treatise.In response to one of the negative reviews of this book - I do agree with that reviewer that the authors' treatment of DNSSEC is lacking. (DNSSEC implementation evaluation is up to the individual organization, and the pros and cons of that discussion are outside the scope of this book. I would not call a decision to pass on DNSSEC a best practice.) However, there's far more positive than negative to take away from the book, and it can be very valuable to SMB and new InfoSec pros.
